About the Author

Ethan Hipple’s passion for the outdoors was ignited as a teenager working on a trail crew for the Student Conservation Association (SCA). He served as a croo member in the Appalachian Mountain Club’s High Huts, guided trips for Prescott College, was an SCA Trail Crew Leader, and eventually ran the Western Region of the SCA High School Program. He has directed the New Hampshire Conservation Corps and is currently the Director of Parks and Recreation in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Along the way, he moonlit as a rickshaw driver, pizza bike-delivery driver, and street musician. He lives in Tuftonboro, New Hampshire, with his lovely wife, Sarah, and two awesome kids, where they love to find secret swimming holes, fish, kayak, surf, and play music on the porch. His favorite backcountry meal is Pozole Pie (Mexican-style lasagna cooked in a Dutch oven); the backcountry gear he cannot live without is a good umbrella.

Yemaya St.Clair grew up exploring the woods and waters of Puget Sound before discovering backpacking as a teenager and taking to the mountains. Her outdoor pursuits have taken her everywhere from the summits of Mount Rainier and Katahdin to the fjords of Patagonia and the canopy of Costa Rica. She worked as an environmental educator with the Student Conservation Association before turning her focus to freelance writing. This is her second guidebook for the AMC. She lives in Portland, Maine, with her husband, Lucas, and their two small kids, who came along on hiking, biking, and paddling trips before they could roll over.
