The Appalachian Trail Conservancy publishes the definitive guides to the entire Appalachian Trail, covering more than 2,100 miles in 11 guidebooks. All guides include detailed trail descriptions and information on road crossings, shelters, water sources, points of interest, and general advice on the region. Each guide also includes separate water-resistant maps for the specific region covered.
The Maryland-Northern Virginia guide covers 95 miles from Pen Mar on the Pennsylvania border to the entrance to the Shenandoah National Park near Front Royal, Va. The set includes three, five-color topographic maps.
